BCFC Skills Acquisition Program

WHAT IS SAP ?

A key aspect of the new Football Federation Australia National Curriculum is the implementation of a Skill Acquisition Program (SAP) to perfect and accelerate the skill development of identified players at the critical ages of 9 to 13. This is the age group universally acknowledged to be the optimal mental and physical phase in which children are able to learn motor skills.

Regarded as the foundation of player development, the Skills Acquisition phase plays a key role in the future generation of players by laying the foundation of the FFA National Curriculum’s four core skills:

  • First touch
  • 1v1’s
  • Running with the ball
  • Striking the ball

2017 SAP VISION

Football Queensland will provide young players with an opportunity to experience a positive and enhanced football experience through exposure to a fun and challenging environment, while also preparing them for the future technical and tactical challenges of PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Men’s and Women’s competitions and beyond.

2017 SAP MISSION

The 2017 SAP structure will be licensed to Football Queensland clubs which meet certain minimum criteria, including the facilitation of players regardless of financial situation to be involved in a professional program which focuses on good facilities and coaching and a football philosophy which reflects the vision of FFA and Football Queensland.

THE AIM

To provide players born between 2006/2008 with the necessary technical ‘tools’ to be able to play the game at the highest possible level with a focus on functional game skills.

THE FOCUS

The focus of SAP is on functional game skills with an immediate skills transfer into positioning and small-sided games being an absolute requirement. It is based on World’s Best Practice and has been developed by internationally acclaimed Technical Coaches and the FFA Technical Department.

STAGE ONE OF SAP EXPANSION

Whilst the long-term plan is to implement SAP programs across the state to provide more players with an opportunity to be trained through the Skills Acquisition Coaching Program and SAP Coaches, Football Queensland have made the decision to focus more resources into coach education to reach this objective.

We have also made the decision to implement the SAP Academy Program, to provide talented young players in designated areas with an opportunity to train with players of similar abilities.  NPL clubs through a licensing agreement will run this program once they meet the SAP criteria.

The role of the Licensee (FFA recognised club) plays an important role in providing a best practice training environment and youth training plan, whilst also providing SAP Academy Carnivals for players to test the skills in a competitive environment.

The match in isolation should not be the focus of the licensee, coach or parent.

COST

The cost per player for the S.A.P program held at Brisbane City Football Club for 2017 will only be $450 inc gst.  This one off fee includes all coaching fees for the program (January – September) and players training kit, which consists of training socks, training shorts and training shirt. No other costs will occur.

(Please note, BCFC will not make ANY profit from running the S.A.P.)

INVITATIONAL PLAYERS

Clubs will have the option to invite an additional four players into the program of which one must be a goalkeeper for 1 session per week from May onwards. This will not be to the detriment of existing SAP players.

SESSION START TIMES

The S.A.P program will kick off Tuesday 21st February 2017 and run until Friday 29th September 2017.

All sessions will be held @ BCFC on Tuesdays and Thursdays 5.30pm sharp – 6.30pm.

Players to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to session start.   Players are NOT to kick balls around on field before sessions! Please refer to Academy notice board for pre arrival activities.

The BCFC S.A.P program will be run by Academy Director Jake Goodship and assisted by lead coach Mitch Edwards and assisted by Ryan Genrich and Paul Swithenbank.   All coaches have the necessary qualifications to deliver the sessions to a high standard and have been selected by Dean Simpkins (FFA/FQ head SAP trainer)
