General Club Update – March 2019

 In Club Update, News

Dear Members and Supporters,

The Board of Directors wishes to announce some changes and expansion of the Leadership group within the Club.

Robert Cavallucci has resigned his position as President of Brisbane City. We thank Robert for his dedication and service to Brisbane City during his time as President and we look forward to continuing to work with him in a more focused capacity with the club in the future.

In the Interim,  a new president will not be appointed at this time.  The expanded Board of Directors will continue to guide and direct the club forwards until the Annual General Meeting to be held later this year, each taking responsibility for their key areas in the Club.

We take this opportunity to welcome Dale Cliff and Lee-Ann Khan to the Board of the Club.

Dale, as a Partner in legal firm Mills Oakley (Club Sponsor), will provide much needed support in this area as we continue to grow on top of the wonderful support provided by Club Sponsors Just Us Lawyers and Porta Lawyers.

Lee-Ann, with a background in Senior Human Resources at Large Corporate Level will provide invaluable guidance to the Club and drive our compliance and professionalism in this area.

Further to this,  all existing Board Members remain in place having guided the Club since 2015. These are Craig Wildermuth, Robert Rossi, Mario Lattanzi, Martin Millard and David Asnicar.

The Club is finally off and running at full capacity for the 2019 season with the commencement of fixtures this past weekend for our Under 8’s to Under 12’s Academy teams combined with a season start for our 5 Over age teams in 2019.

This year in our over age bracket, we have two men’s and one women’s City League Teams on top of two Over 35 Teams.  At the younger end of our scale we have record numbers of girls and boys enrolled in our Mini Gladiators and Mini Roos Programs.

Senior Men’s NPL side:

The Club has this week been penalized with a 6 point deduction to our Senior Men’s Team by Football Qld for incorrectly registering, in error, one of our new players under competition rules pertaining to International Clearances. We are obviously bitterly disappointed that the  FFA and FQ regulations mandate such a severe penalty for an administrative oversight given the difficulties of the new FFA registration system  but now is the time to push forward and ensure that the Senior Team is supported and motivated towards finishing as high up the table as possible in 2019.

This coupled with injuries to some of our key players has made for a difficult start.  The Board is providing additional resources and focus to this part of the Club to ensure we will climb the table with 20 odd games left in the season.

Facilities:

Many of you will have noticed further improvements to our facilities this year undertaken through the generosity of our Sponsorship Group. Some of the key items are:

  1. Over 200 meters of protective fencing added at Ruby St and Mark St with more planned in 2019-2020
  2. More LED Heads added to our Mark St field with more to be added 2019-2020 to finalize this project
  3. Significant investment in our Strength and Conditioning Programs through Gymnasium improvements
  4. A Main Switchboard upgrade (Phase 1) at CTM Stadium enabling the Club to de-risk power outages during matches with further street based Energex Upgrades planned for October 2019 to finalize this project.
  5. Investment in a Club Owned Match Video recording system enabling subsequent analysis by our coaches and players
  6. Purchase of an aerator
  7. Purchase of an Ice Machine for players at Mark St
  8. The club has invested in a suitable mower to improve the quality of its fields over time and is expecting delivery of this machine in the next fortnight.

Newmarket Bowls Club Project:

Many of you will be aware of the significance of this project and the impact it will have on our Club.  By adding another 6000m2 to our training field capacity, many of the challenges we currently manage with fields will be dissipated.

We are pleased to confirm that the club has secured through various grants, $250,000 towards the redevelopment of this facility to football fields. Coupled with a $50,000 contribution from our 2019 Sponsors Group, we are hoping and planning to fully complete, earthworks, irrigation, fields and lighting so that this field is available sometime in 2019 and certainly ready for 2020 season traffic.

As members, we are creating a worthwhile precedent for re-purposing a community asset for the benefit of thousands of young boys and girls in the future.

To be clear,  Brisbane City will be taking on usage of the field space only, not the Clubhouse, but access will be provided to toilets etc as required on training nights.

Brisbane City FC Legends Lunch

This annual event is on again this year.  Stay tuned for the Date Claimer and details of how to attend.  As is our custom, it will be held on a Friday and all Junior training will be cancelled on the date to enable parents to attend and provide support to the club on this important day.

Volunteers

Many of you will be aware that the Club has been caught up in MACRON Australia and New Zealand going into liquidation and receivership.   In summary, we were left with nearly 300 children still to be delivered their playing kits. In our time of need over 10 volunteers have stepped up to assist as we’ve taken emergency stock from KAPPA Australia and Red Lion Agencies/Nike to get these players on the park .  This task should start to wrap up this week as final deliveries are received, and we’d like to sincerely thank our volunteers for their assistance, not just in this area, but in all areas of the Club.

If you’d like to get involved and make a difference, get in touch by emailing Luca on gm@brisbanecityfc.com.au

Media

We welcome Brad Rathbone to our Media Managers role for 2019.  Brad comes to us via the successful Brisbane Bandits Australian Baseball League franchise and we look forward to seeing Brad around the Club in coming days.

Easter Camps

Don’t forget to register for our Easter Camps for both Goalkeepers and Outfield Players. These invaluable camps provide concentrated and specialist learnings to take your game to the next level with City!

Stay tuned in coming weeks for more updates.

Thank you

The Brisbane City FC Board of Directors
