Brisbane City Football Club is aiming high for 2016 and beyond, appointing one of Australia’s most capped football internationals, John Kosmina to lead the coaching team

At a signing ceremony at the club’s Newmarket headquarters today, Mr Kosmina was appointed Senior Coach and football leader on a 3 year contract.

Club President David Asnicar said Mr Kosmina’s appointment was a key milestone in the long-term vision of the club to provide a development pathway for Brisbane’s young footballers.

“Brisbane City Football Club aims to be a high-achieving club on a sustainable basis, which means we need the support of a broad supporter base, first class facilities, talented footballers and mentors to guide our teams to the top,” Mr Asnicar said.

“We have made no secret that we have high expectations and having world-class coaching staff is one of the key pieces of the puzzle.

“John Kosmina has been an outstanding player, coach, manager and ambassador for the game, and we look forward to him helping us achieve on the national stage.”

Mr Kosmina said he was looking forward to helping the club return to the top of the table over time by working with the Club’s best young talent as the foundation.

“To excel in any sport you need to have the fundamentals right, and I have been very impressed by the quality of the organisational structure Brisbane FC have in place here.

“From the board down, it’s obvious this club is set for a bright future, with top tier sponsors, some of the best facilities in the country and an enthusiastic player group whom I am looking forward to helping achieve their potential.”

Mr Kosmina will move to Brisbane in September and start training with the team in October but has already commenced planning and engagement within the club.

Brisbane City FC has outlined a 5 year strategic plan, including upgrading training facilities to an all-weather surface, the expansion of family friendly entertainment facilities, and the re-establishment of a full time goal keeping and strikers academy in 2016.
