About The BCFCGA
Preparation, Opportunity, Resilience, Learning, Hard-Work, Fun & Laughter
The Brisbane City Football Club Goalkeeper Academy opened its doors in 2016, to grow an Academy and give young Goalkeepers incredible opportunities and a pathway to becoming a professional Goalkeeper and fulfil their dreams.
The Brisbane City Football Club Goalkeeper Academy started with just 20 Goalkeepers in various teams at BCFC and has now escalated to numerous school’s in Queensland’s south east, engagement with other clubs and various Goalkeepers achieving great success’s by playing for state teams and progressing to professional ranks.
During the start of the 2017 season, Macklen Freke was awarded a professional contract with Brisbane Roar football club and has since gone on to achieve international success by being called up to the u20 Australia squad. A big well done Macklen and to the coaching staff at Brisbane City Football Club.
Throughout the 2 seasons the BCFCGA has been operating, it has had an involvement with 7 out of the 8 selected Goalkeepers for under 13 and under 14 Queensland Metro teams for 2016 and 2017. In 2018 and 2019 this success has continued with numerous placements into representative teams, the Brisbane Roar Academy and overseas. In 2019 the Club was fortunate to see Academy graduates Jamie Cogman and Cooper Skerry win scholarships with Cardiff City FC and Leeds United FC respectively.
A great achievement for all the boys selected and a credit to their hard-working attitude and desire to listen and learn from the coaching staff.
In 2017 the BCFCGA started a ‘Queensland first’ in a girls only Goalkeeper programs aptly named ‘She’s a Keeper’. With girl’s football growing at a rapid rate in Australia the BCFCGA felt that girls MUST be given an opportunity too to pursue a career as a professional Goalkeeper.
