BCFC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Development Program Restructure
WHY THE CHANGE?
Brisbane City Football Club has always wanted to provide the best opportunity to its players no matter what level you are at. We have a very successful academy program that develops and attracts some of the best players in Queensland. The problem we have started to find within our own club is we feel we are not providing those players who missed out on academy a clear pathway to develop into this system.
While academy players are training up to 4 nights a week with professional coaching our tier below has been training twice a week in a mixed skill level group in a “lessor” competition. We are now going to look at trying to capture those who just fell short and play and train them together to keep pushing themselves and bridge the GAP between Development and Academy.
This decision was not made lightly and overnight. At the end of the 2016 season the miniroo development coaches had been brought together to review the season. The lead coach and Academy director talked about the season in whole present with a board member we listened to a number of pros and cons for the season.
We also understand players want to play this great game for fun with friends from school and enjoy the sport. We will not be stopping these players from joining our club and will still be catering for these players and welcome you to BCFC with the same benefits as all our players.
WHAT IS THE DEVELOPMENT/FOUNDATION PROGRAM GOING TO LOOK LIKE?
Our Development program is the tier below Academy where players train twice a week with a 3rd option user paid session each term. They play in the Brisbane North Komodo League each Saturday. This team will go through a trial process for selection with one team per age group selected.
Foundation Program will also train twice a week with a 3rd optional session as user pay program each term. This group will play in the local goanna league and no trails will be conducted. Visit our Foundation Program Page for more information
WHEN IS TRIAL FOR DEVELOPMENT?
January 2017 we will hold trials for the development teams. Our facebook page and website will be the best point of information for the dates once released.
ARE THE COACHES PROFESSIONAL?
While we always promote coaching employment and want to employ coaches to help develop the players it is not always that easy. We offer a service that competes with local clubs financially and have a professional coach who oversees our program. This coach provides coach education to the coaches involved in this program and provides them with a number of sessions and session plans to help them conduct high quality trainings. Whilst some of these might be “volunteer” coaches and may not be seen as professional we are more than confident we are providing a service of higher quality than our rival clubs through continued support.
User paid sessions will be with a professional coach who will be familiar with BCFC Academy model and philosophy.
WILL THEY GET A CHANCE TO TRIAL FOR ACADEMY AGAIN NEXT YEAR?
All players are watched and monitored throughout the year and often games are played on Mark Street with Academy staff nearby who are keeping an eye on each player/team. Should players be doing well within their environment that player will be invited into academy to train and may make a transition mid-season. The door is never closed to get into academy we understand players develop at different rates and will find ways to help them develop. The following season all players are able to nominate themselves to be trialled.
IF MY SON/DAUGHTER IS IN THE FOUNDATION PROGRAM DOES THAT MEAN THEY WILL NEVER MAKE ACADEMY?
No. Just like our development program if players are found to be doing well within their environment they too will be invited to train up and could make a transition mid season. We cannot stress the importance of understanding each player can develop at different rates and we will do our best to cater for these players in there development through the miniroos phase of their footballing journey.
WHAT WILL THE SEASON SIGN ON FEE COVER?
Two nights training, Balls, Bibs, Facilities – lighting, field maintenance etc, Match day Kit, a lead coach overseeing the program, Football Brisbane registration and insurance.
